The Oskaloosa string program consists of 180+ students in grades 4 - 12. Each student receives a weekly group or individual lesson. Ensemble instruction available to students includes a beginning elementary orchestra, advanced elementary orchestra, two middle school orchestras and a high school orchestra. Middle school and high school ensembles meet daily and students receive grades and academic credit for their work. Each ensemble performs in three or more concerts each year.
Other opportunities include a regional string festival for middle schoolers, honor orchestras, chamber orchestras for high school students and high school State Solo and Small Ensemble Festival. The High School Orchestra participates in State Large Group Festival and has received division “I” ratings in nineteen of the last twenty years. They also travel every 4 years for performance and cultural enrichment opportunities. Destinations since 2001 include San Diego, Dallas and Chicago. While in Dallas the group was able to perform in Meyerson Symphony Center, the home of the Dallas Symphony.
